| Physical Description | Kutaj is a fairly rotund man - to walk opposite him in a corridor is to invite a shoulder-charge. His rather flabby physical demeanor underlies an astonishing strength. His lengthy black beard is straggled and haggard, and his hair is long and shaggy. His golden eyes peer deep into whomever makes eye contact with him, and he is quite good at determining people\'s intentions - especially lies, based on what he sees in their eyes. He is more often than not grinning from ear to ear and can be seen laughing in room-shaking bouts of laughter: especially after telling one of his own jokes. |

Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Kutaj is not trusted among other Klingons due to his almost unnatural talent for supposition. His instincts have never been wrong (or so he says) and it is this insight (and loathing from his own people who perceived him as something of a mind-reader) that led him to a career in Starfleet. Kutaj is a jovial, outgoing fellow who loves to tell stories - especially his own, although he will delve into stories of his ancestors or stories he has heard in the past. Most of his stories sound greatly exaggerated, although he swears up and down that they are 100% accurate and true. Kutaj, as most Klingons, is a man of his word and keeps every promise he makes. He seems somewhat slow in mind, but this is a dangerous assumption: his quick wit and faster tongue often put even the most unassuming passerby’s in their place. Kutaj\'s service record is blank for a great deal after he left the Klingon Empire following the Dominion War, and nobody knows why. Any attempts to obtain this information are met with blank stares after which Kutaj generally either downs a stiff drink or leaves the room. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Kutaj is extremely proud. He was a warrior in the Dominion War, surviving several bouts of impossible odds against the Jem Hadar both in planet-side warfare and in space. However, in what most Klingons would call a \"cooling of the blood\", Kutaj seems to reject violence in any form in most situations. Kutaj generally does not fight. Instead, he uses his humor to confuse or stun his opponent into silence, at which point Kutaj walks away unscathed. His social skills are legendary, as his ability to listen - two traits which allow him to perform his Counselor duty extremely well. | |
| Ambitions | Kutaj is looking forward to what appears to be a posh, relaxing time in his life. Seeing as this goes contrary to most Klingon ideals, many of his own kind - as well as his crewmates, are confused by the contradiction. But Kutaj seems to be enjoying himself serving on a Federation ship moreso than he ever did on a Klingon cruiser. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Kutaj enjoys storytelling - in any form. He often regales his patients with stories of his sordid past. He can most often be seen in the corridors relating tales to his fellow crewmates. He enjoys meeting new people, even other Klingons. | |
| Languages | Federation Standard, Klingon |
| Personal History | Kutaj was born almost a year after Romulan forces tried to board Klingon General ShiVang\'s flagship. Martok, then a civilian laborer turned raw recruit, introduced Kutaj\'s mother to his new warrior friend after losing a bet. The friend was Ho\'kaj, Kutaj\'s father. The two went on to have a wonderfully storied romance. Kutaj is the newly-oldest brother of a family of four. K\'Jad, his older brother, sacrificed himself to save Kutaj\'s ship from a Jem Hadar ramming attempt nine years ago. His two younger siblings, Kol\'vek and G\'Val both look to Kutaj as the heir-apparent head of House Ket\'ral. As a boy, Kutaj grew up on Qo\'Nos and spent several years working as a cook in his small town\'s market - becoming quite renown for his cooking abilities. He learned to cook a great many things - including some human foods, though his favorite was always Heart of Targ. One particular day, an officer in the Klingon fleet had pushed him aside while he was serving food to customers, creating quite a mess. The officer sat at a nearby table and Kutaj took his order - per usual, the officer ordered Kutaj\'s legendary Heart of Targ. Kutaj roasted him a special version of his dish. When the officer put his knife into the heart, it exploded, spraying the officer, and nearby diners with targ blood and a particularly spicy concoction of Kutaj\'s own creation. After cleaning out his eyes with bloodwine, the officer followed the young boy\'s raucous laughter. Tracking Kutaj back to the kitchen, the officer grinned and informed the young Klingon that he would begin starship duty as cook on board the IKV DuVas the next day. This would be known as the first time Kutaj had been stunned into silence – a feat that would rarely be repeated hereafter. Ho\'kaj, who had thought his son would be no better than a planet-side cook for the rest of his life, was incredibly pleased by this. He encouraged his son to branch out and do as many things as the newly befriended officer would allow him to learn. Kutaj spent the remainder of his time in the Klingon fleet on that ship. Three days after the Dominion-Federation peace accords, Kutaj took a \"leave of absence\" from the Klingon fleet and has since joined the Federation, gone through the Academy, and earned his commission. His first assignment was to Starbase 47, as a counselor, but he found this quickly uninteresting as he always preferred to have some place to go, and starbases are rather stationary. He put the word out that he\'d like to be on a starship, and as soon as he heard back about open positions, he applied to every one he could. |
