Physical Description Gired is a 6’4 Romulan male that is slender in frame with flecked eyuld (hazel green) eyes that get lighter and darker in different light. He may be 72, but he appears to be in his early 30s because Romulans age slower than Humans. His left ear is pierced, and he has a gothic ring tattoo around his right arm. He has several scars on his back from when his father beat him as a child. He also has a scar in his side from when he was pierced by a bull's horn on his adopted family's ranch. He is dark for a Romulan and has yellowish tan skin and an easy smile that makes anyone feel at ease.

General Overview He is an easygoing guy who will let most things just roll off his back. His children are the light of his life and he is very reserved around potential lovers. His brothers – both adopted and not – are trying to get him to get over his wife. He loves such 20th century country artists as Toby Keith, Big and Rich, Diamond Rio, Brad Paisley, George Strait, and Gretchen Wilson. He has two dachshunds, Frank and Coney. He likes to cook and eat food such as veal medallions in raspberry truffle sauce with steamed artichoke hearts, duck a l'orange, and other gourmet treats. He is also bisexual.
Strengths & Weaknesses S – Gired is a caring, understanding guy who will lend anyone an ear, which quickly earns him friends. He can pick out something for anyone and know with confidence they’ll enjoy it. He is a great father, and would do anything for his children.

W – His greatest weakness is the death of his wife, as he is still not over her. Whenever someone mentions her, he’ll turn away and walk off with tears in his eyes. He is also a bit of a pushover when it comes to his kids

Personal History Gired had a rough childhood. He was born the elder of telepathic twin boys to a Romulan Senator and his wife and his father hated telepaths. Gired's father would beat them every time he caught them at it and Gired would take the beating for both of them. He was constantly being hit with his father’s whip. He would tell his twin to hide in the closet while he took the beating. One day Setek found out. He was furious. He beat Tafv within an inch of his life. Tafv died the next day. Then Setek started beating Kihai, and Gired couldn’t protect him the way he protected Tafv. When he was the Romulan equivalent to thirteen Terran years old, he killed his father. He then ran away from home where he and other Romulan dissidents stole a shuttle and defected to the Federation.

The ship that found his crossing the NZ was commanded by Martin Parkes, the kind of captain every cadet dreams of serving with. With him was one Brigadier General Hank Greenwood. Hank saw the kid, and saw a lot of his own kids in him, and instead of treating him with contempt like the other Marines were, he took him into his family. Gired grew up with the other Greenwood children and became legally 'Gired Greenwood', as his mother had disowned him the minute he ran away.

Gired loved riding horseback with his new brothers and sister, and performing in the rodeo. He originally went to the Daystrom Institute where he learned about engineering on a starship, but just after he got his degree he decided he wanted to do his original love of cooking. His parents were not pleased, but they understood. He still keeps up with the technicalities of engineering to this day. He went to Johnston and Wales in Charleston in the Carolina area, where he learned his craft of cooking anything imaginable and choosing the perfect wine or mixing the perfect drink.

While he was working at the Barracks, an NCO and Cadet Bar in San Francisco, he met his future wife, Mikah Niamh Jonas. They saw each other regularly and after she graduated, they were married and placed on a Galaxy class starship. She gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Riku, and a year later, to a son named Javron. Gired was, for the first time in his life, content. He had wonderful parents on Earth, brothers and a sister he could count on and that could count on him, and a wife and children he loved more than life itself. His job as manager of Ten Forward wasn't bad either.

Then the Borg came. They attacked the ship and as the Chief of Security, Mikah was the last to leave. He was forced to watch as they assimilated her, her tanned skin turning white, her blue eyes turning a hideous green with the mechanical infection. It was only when they went for the children that he ran. He was depressed for three years, despite his attempts to get over her. But there was no getting over a 17-year marriage that was as happy as theirs.

Until he met Davina Hauf. They were just friends at first, helping each other to get over past loves, but on the USS Missouri, it grew to love. After having enough of the captain's 'Christian attitude' he put in for a transfer and asked Davina to come with him. He still has not gotten an answer, but she said she would come. Time will tell.
